Improv Drop-In: Thursday 1 November 2018

This week’s drop-in: Practical Telepathy

Brought to you by Lee.

The best film, TV, and improv scenes are filled with subtlety and nuance. Unfortunately as improvisers we don’t have the luxury of reading the script beforehand to know what the other performer is communicating! This week we’ll be working on subtlety in improv, why we want to do it, why it’s often a bad idea, and through a series of exercises how we can use subtlety to add an extra dimension to our scenes.

Improv Drop-In: Thursday 25 October 2018

This week’s drop-in: Character Charisma

Brought to you by Elliott.

**Please note the change of venue: we are back at the Malt Cross!**

A great actor can play anyone in any situation, but you don’t often see people queuing round the block to see them. We’re usually drawn instead to those stars who drip with charisma, like Al Pacino, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Will Smith and Vinnie Jones (really…?) who seem to play almost the same character every time, eg Al Pacino shouting at people as a cop/lawyer/football coach, George Clooney being super-smooth and charming, Tom Cruise is Tom Cruise in every film, and Dwayne Johnson grins endearingly through every role. They play themselves and people fall in love with the character of them. That’s what makes them stars.

This week you’ll get a certain character or characteristic drawn from my magic bag of characters. This will be with you all evening! Your challenge is to merge that characteristic with yourself and use your innate charm to generate charismatic power for a series of 2-4 person open scenes.
Watch very carefully who is who as there will be a prize at the end!

SMASH NIGHT! | Wednesday 31st October | The Angel

MissImp 20th Anniversary Celebration Jam – Thursday 18 October 2018

MISSIMP 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION JAM

Nottingham’s homegrown improvised theatre company MissImp celebrates its twentieth year with a whole weekend of comedy entertainment! Featuring five shows across two venues, ranging from full musicals to lightning fast skits, plus two free workshops, it’s sure to be a birthday like no other!

On Thursday, 18th October we’re thrilled to take over the newly reopened Malt Cross, where the original MissImp cast from 20 years ago are reuniting for one night only, followed by a showcase of our top talent, and a jam where anyone and everyone can take part!

MissImp has existed for TWENTY years! In that time we’ve come a long way, from our very first show ever, at the Malt Cross, to um… the Malt Cross! Tonight the whole of the pub is ours, and we present a celebration show featuring the original line up of MissImp (or Mission: Improbable as it was back then), followed by a titanic Gorilla Burger jam show in the bar.
This will be the perfect night to find out what the Nottingham improvised comedy scene is, and for everyone who’s ever attended a drop-in, watched a show, or appeared on stage with us. Let’s bring it all together and have a wicked night of comedy and spontaneity.
This is the celebration you’ve been looking for.

Improv Drop-In: Thursday 11 October 2018

This week’s drop-in: Bonobo Sandwich

Brought to you by Ben.

**Please note the change of venue: we are back at the Malt Cross!**

This week we have no Gorilla Burger because we have such a busy week following with a celebration jam and a bucket of shows. So this instead we are just having a big play session with lots of short form games that you’d recognise from Whose Line is it Anyway?

Come along for lots of opportunities to play favourites like genre rollercoaster, Story Story Die and Should have Said. You’re in the capable hands of Ben this week.

MissImp Interview in LeftLion

We’re famous! Kinda… Check out this very nice interview with Hazel Ward in LeftLion (the Nottingham magazine of culture and cool stuff) about MissImp, our 20th Anniversary and the late night ramblings of people faced with questions:

Improv Drop-In: Thursday 4 October 2018

This week’s drop-in: Honey, I’m Home!

Brought to you by Emily.

**Please note the change of venue: we are back at the Malt Cross!**

We’re back in our spiritual home, so it’s time to get positive! Sometimes in improv, it can feel easy to play scenes that are conflicts or arguments to create drama. It can also be easy to switch off when you’re not in a scene, thinking your only chance to get involved is when you’re on stage.
No more! This drop-in is all about cooperative scenes fuelled by positive feedback from the audience. We’ll be inviting people in the audience to say stuff they liked about the scene that just happened. It’ll be more positive than a proton who just finished a long day in the atom and has come home to see his proton wife!

MissImp 20th Anniversary – 18-21 October 2018

MISSIMP 20TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

Nottingham’s homegrown improvised theatre company MissImp celebrates its twentieth year with a whole weekend of comedy entertainment! Featuring five shows across two venues, ranging from full musicals to lightning fast skits, plus two free workshops, it’s sure to be a birthday like no other!

“HIGH ON IMAGINATION, PERFORMANCE, AND DELIVERY” – Weekend Notes

On Thursday, 18th October we’re thrilled to take over the newly reopened Malt Cross, where the original MissImp cast from 20 years ago are reuniting for one night only, followed by a showcase of our top talent, and a jam where anyone and everyone can take part!

“TOTALLY BIZARRE, FUNNY AND ENTHRALLING.” – Nottingham Evening Post

On Friday, 19th October we present a double bill of improvised comedy at the Nottingham Playhouse: at 7pm, The Vortex, our sell-out all-female team, will perform an hour-long play inspired by a single word from the audience. At 9pm, The Vox Pops take the stage, creating comedy from true stories – as told by special guest, Annie (of Annie’s Burger Shack)!

“UNIQUE PERFORMANCES THAT HAVE THE AUDIENCE IN STITCHES.” – LeftLion

Our final night on Saturday, 20th October continues the celebration, with Rhymes Against Humanity bringing an entirely improvised musical to Nottingham Playhouse at 7pm! Our weekend concludes with Smash Night at 9pm, pitching our monthly show from The Angel onto the Neville Studio stage for a special performance filled with improvisers old and new.
