Throw a ball into a group of young children and they will kick it, throw it and bounce it without hesitation. Throw a ball into a group of adults and they will look to you for instruction or permission. Have they forgotten how to play? No! Of course not! Play is a language so universal that even baby animals do it instinctively. So why are these people so tongue-tied? It’s because they choose to be.
This week is less about technique and more about “Yes, and” as a mindset. It goes far beyond just scenes, it’s a philosophy for life. Those who say “yes” are rewarded with new experiences, those who say no are rewarded with safety. All of us started doing improv because one day we wanted to and we said, “Yes, and.” It’s only when we are open to the possibilities that the real fun can begin…
