“Saying without Telling”, with Duncan
Physicality is usually a performance challenge, after all you are performing actions, but what if we treat it as a writing challenge? These are still choices that can have a narrative impact. These are still offers our scene partners can accept. These are still opportunities to develop our characters. At the heart of improv is clear communication and body language can be a powerful tool in doing so, a simple gesture can tell us all we need. So when we say “show, don’t tell” we should also ask “what am I telling when I show?”
So come along! Hope you’re ready for a full workout because this week there’ll be lots of exercises to get thinking and to get us moving.
