This week’s jam: The Articulate! Jam
This week’s improv jam is brought to you by: Parky
Christmas is a time for board games and one of the most popular family games in my house is speaky word-thing Articulate! The aim of Articulate! (as the name suggests) is to get the rest of your team to guess what it is that you are describing, without you actually using that word.
So, for example, if your word was “swan”, you might say “it’s a large, white river bird with a long neck”. You might say “it’s a brand of safety matches – something Vesta.” Or you might say “he was England’s spin bowler in the 2013 Ashes series.”
What you can’t say is the word itself or any derivatives of the word. So, if your word is ‘postman’ you can’t say ‘post’ or ‘Post Office’ or ‘posting’ or ‘man’ or ‘mailman’ – and so on.
For inspiration this week, I’ll have the Articulate! cards. You’ll pick a category – people, places, objects, actions, nature or random – and I’ll give you the word from the card. You’ll do a scene inspired by that word but – and here is the key – you can’t actually use the word you’re given (or derivatives thereof). If you do, I’ll end the scene immediately.
Inspiration without actually using the word that inspires you. Fun!
