Art Imitating Life, with Duncan
Have you ever had a friend present you with a “hypothetical” situation that is so filled with specific “hypothetical” detail that you start to think that this “hypothetical” situation is definitely happening? What a shame for your friend but what an enviable skill for improv!
Details are the lifeblood of an improv scene. People will bend over backwards trying to think of a funny or clever or original idea whilst completely ignoring the limitless library of lived experiences they already hold. What better way to bring our scenes to life than to use details from life itself! We are story tellers. We use lies to tell the truth and the best lies contain an element of truth.
This week we will play like a child but with the knowledge and experiences of an adult. We’ll be encouraging you to use the most original, most useful and most important thing in improv. Yourself.
