In Someone Else’s Shoes
Remember when you saw that amazing character in that improv show and you thought “Why can’t I do that?” Ever wanted to be someone else, even if it’s just for a few minutes? Well, you can! I will be sharing my love of creating memorable (and often very silly) characters. We’ll work on building characters from the outside in, by playing with voice and physicality. We’ll also explore creating them from the inside out by looking at what drives characters to act in a particular way.
Facilitator Bio:
Marilyn Ann Bird is a full-time actor and voiceover artist and has been trained by teachers from UCB, Second City, IO, The Maydays, Baby Wants Candy and even Armando Diaz and the Mike McShane. She’s been with MissImp for around two decades (although exact dates are hazy). She performs with It’s a Trap! The Improvised Star Wars Show, Rhymes Against Humanity, and anyone else who will have her. She once met Colin Mochrie and wants to be Josie Lawrence when she grows up.
This is the ninth all-female improv workshop put on by MissImp!
These workshops are led by some of the most exciting female improvisers from our Nottingham community and beyond, and each will focus on a specific area of improvisation unique to them! These workshops are made possible by the support of Nottingham Women’s Centre!
Improv is the art of making up theatre and comedy on the spot, without any scripts or pre-planning. This workshop is for any female-identifying or non-binary individuals who feel they would benefit from or like to experience an all-female classroom environment. This is a safe space to try out new skills and support other women within our improv community!
We always want to encourage people to take on teaching roles within our community – if you would be interested in taking one (or part of) these workshops, please email orla@missimp.co.uk.
• Safety: Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell or cannot meet our safety requirements, especially if you’re experiencing any coronavirus symptoms.
• MissImp’s Code of Conduct for participants applies to this event.
This workshop takes place in the downstairs room of the Malt Cross pub, accessible either by stairs or the lift.
