Gobby with Kate Knight

GOBBY

Gobby adj. (of a person) tending to talk too much, too loudly and in a blunt or opinionated way.

Raise your voice! Articulate your thoughts! Speak your truth! It’s time to get GOBBY. This workshop is all about putting you in the spotlight. It’s about breaking you out of the habits of politeness, and encouraging you to take up space. It’s about developing your own ideas beyond the odd line of dialogue or two. And it is about being heard.

There will be monologuing. There will be ranting. There will be expounding. There will be fun!

Kate Knight is a writer, teacher and improviser from Birmingham. She is one half of the award-winning twoprov squidheart, and is a member of Birmingham-based improv troupe Box of Frogs. She has trained extensively in a range of improv styles both in the UK and internationally. Her current teaching practice is inspired by spoken word and poetics – as a writer of verse, she is passionate about the lessons that improv can learn from spoken word and vice versa.

This is the seventh all-female improv workshop put on by MissImp!

These workshops led by some of the most exciting female improvisers from our Nottingham community and beyond, and will focus on a specific area of improvisation unique to them!

Improv is the art of making up theatre and comedy on the spot, without any scripts or pre-planning. This workshop is for any female-identifying or non-binary individuals who feel they would benefit from or like to experience an all-female classroom environment. This is a safe space to try out new skills and support other women within our improv community!

Please note: Our definition of ‘women’ and ‘female’ is inclusive, and we welcome trans women, genderqueer women, and non-binary people.

We are always looking to encourage people to take on teaching roles within our community – if you would be interested in taking one (or part of) these workshops, please email contact@missimp.co.uk.

Hi There!

During the coronavirus outbreak, MissImp has continued to offer entirely free online activities for our community, including commissioning an ongoing series of paid virtual drop-ins from improvisers around the world, fortnightly online Gorilla Burger shows and more. If you’d like to help us keep these activities going and keep our lights on we’d be immensely grateful. Together, we can get through this.
