joy
/dʒɔɪ/ noun 1. a feeling of great pleasure and happiness.
This workshop is all about finding the pure joy that can be had from improv, both as a participant and a spectator. I will be inviting you to loosen up, abandon your self-consciousness and the constraints of the real world to the wonder of just letting go and not caring. We will use exercises from the world of organic improv as well as using music and sound to inspire our scenes. This will be a playful workshop with some physical exercises ( these can be adapted to suit any participant ).
Facilitator Bio:
Jen Kenny is utterly in love with improv. She is a member of Tiny Stories and appears regularly with The Same Faces. She has also performed and guested with Box of Frogs, City Impro, Off Broad Street, Acaprov among others (basically – you ask her, she’ll turn up. This also goes for any workshops going on!) Her enthusiasm for the artform has also led her to seek out as much training as possible and she has taken courses with Jules Munns (The Maydays), Armando Diaz, Will Luera, Colleen Doyle, Brian Jack and many others. Her current passion is the mashing up of improv and karaoke with her awesome partner Hannah Platts. Her main aim in improv is to bring joy to herself, fellow performers but mostly to the audience.
This is the eighth all-female improv workshop put on by MissImp!
These workshops are led by some of the most exciting female improvisers from our Nottingham community and beyond, and each will focus on a specific area of improvisation unique to them!
Improv is the art of making up theatre and comedy on the spot, without any scripts or pre-planning. This workshop is for any female-identifying or non-binary individuals who feel they would benefit from or like to experience an all-female classroom environment. This is a safe space to try out new skills and support other women within our improv community!
We always want to encourage people to take on teaching roles within our community – if you would be interested in taking one (or part of) these workshops, please email improvwomen@missimp.co.uk.
