You’ve Got the Music In You
Do you ever watch musical improv and think “There’s no way I could do that!”? Do you ever watch musical improv and think “I want to do that!”? Have you never watched musical improv? Then this workshop is for you! Through a series of exercises and games, you will learn some of the basics of musical improv and realise that everyone can be musical without needing to have a special talent. You will use music to inspire movements and characters and learn how to create joy on stage using rhythm, rhyme and repetition. Absolutely no musical ability required to participate in this workshop, just an open mind, an open heart and an open mouth!
Facilitator Bio:
Jen Kenny is utterly in love with improv. She is a member of Tiny Stories and has recently formed a new short from troupe called Canny Funny who perform regularly in Northampton. She has also performed and guested with Box of Frogs, City Impro, Off Broad Street, Acaprov among others (basically – you ask her, she’ll turn up. This also goes for any workshops going on!)
Her enthusiasm for the artform has also led her to seek out as much training as possible and she has taken courses with Armando Diaz, Will Luera, Colleen Doyle, Chris Mead, Katy Schutte and many others. Her current passion is the mashing up of improv and karaoke with her awesome partner Hannah Platts in Improvoke. Her main aim in improv is to bring joy to herself, fellow performers but mostly to the audience.’ She taught musical improv courses online for Liverpool Comedy Improv during lockdown to participants as far afield as Sri Lanka and Las Vegas and can’t wait to teach as many people as possible that musical improv is not to be feared.
MissImp’s All-Female Improv Workshops
This is the tenth all-female improv workshop put on by MissImp!
These workshops are led by some of the most exciting female improvisers from our Nottingham community and beyond, and each will focus on a specific area of improvisation unique to them! These workshops are made possible by the support of Nottingham Women’s Centre!
Improv is the art of making up theatre and comedy on the spot, without any scripts or pre-planning. This workshop is for any female-identifying or non-binary individuals who feel they would benefit from or like to experience an all-female classroom environment. This is a safe space to try out new skills and support other women within our improv community!
We always want to encourage people to take on teaching roles within our community – if you would be interested in taking one (or part of) these workshops, please email orla@missimp.co.uk.
• Safety: Please do not attend if you are feeling unwell or cannot meet our safety requirements, especially if you’re experiencing any coronavirus symptoms.
• MissImp’s Code of Conduct for participants applies to this event.
This workshop takes place in the downstairs room of the Malt Cross pub, accessible either by stairs or the lift.
